Villains & Vengeance

Villains & Vengeance includes a short story by fantasy author Julie Artz.

I’m thrilled to have my sci-fi short, “Space Carrion,” in the 2021 Sirens Benefit Anthology, Villains & Vengeance. If you don’t know about Sirens Conference, you should definitely check it out–it’s a reader con that examines the role of gender in speculative literature and it’s been one of the most inclusive and thoughtful communities I’ve ever had the honor of being part of.

My story is a space opera (I know, not my usual, right? I thought I was a fantasy author too!) with both an over-the-top villain and a cold serving of vengeance.

The stories and poems in this collection speak of villains who seek to control or kill, survivors seeking revenge, and good people making hard decisions. Sometimes uncomfortable, often scary, this anthology has contributions across the spectrum of speculative fiction, including fantasy, science fiction, and horror, from ten talented authors who invite you into the worlds they have created.

Beyond the Latch and Lever

Beyond the Latch and Lever includes a story by fantasy author Julie Artz

The 2020 speculative anthology, Beyond the Latch and Lever, features emerging authors with a connection to the Pacific Northwest.

Fantasy author Julie Artz wrote her story, “The Wending Way,” as an allegory about the inflection point humanity reached in 2020. Full of imagery from the magical forest, it explores the emotions she struggles with in a world full of turmoil. Writing it helped her move through a tough year. So you’ll see a lot of Julie in the main character, Aris. She loves seeing it in print alongside stories from some writers she really admires. Hope you read it and enjoy! Add it to Goodreadsbuy it from Bookshop.org, or buy it on Kindle today.

Each story is told clearly and concisely, with the momentum derived from immediate engagement. Again, one suspects the writers and the editors of a deeply engaged collaboration. The result is a highly polished and professional work, truly worthy of its intended audience.” —  Joel R. Dennstedt for Readers’ Favorite
