What if you never had to face the doubt demons alone ever again?

The Wyrd Words Workshop

With The Wyrd Words Workshop, there’s no need to face the doubt demons alone. I’ve created a supportive community that welcomes writers who intend to change the world with their stories. You’ll learn how to craft the change-making story of your heart with an experienced book dragon, ahem, coach and fellow writers by your side.

Writing a book can be a hard, lonely process, but you don’t have to go it alone! I’ve been writing novels for over a decade, so I get it. The doubt. The uncertainty. The waiting. The rejection. That’s why I created a place where you can be with others who get it. Where you can ask the questions you’ve always wondered about. Where you can find the craft, mindset, and market support you need to get your manuscript reader-ready.

There’s so much information out there, it can be hard to identify your next steps. That’s why I’ve created a program that combines community discussion, live coaching, and craft lessons. Let me answer your most pressing writing questions.

Accountability and mindset are often bigger obstacles than lack of craft knowledge. Life is busy. Sometimes it’s easier to reorganize the pantry than tease out a tricky plot problem in our creative work. That’s why write-ins, check in posts, and goal-setting are all a part of The Wyrd Words Workshop.

Are you ready to take the next step in your writing journey?

Essential Elements

Everything in the Workshop is organized around The Wyrd Words Workshop lifecycle. This grew out of my realization that everything about writing from mindset to planning, drafting, revising, and even pitching, is an iterative process.

  • An online community of like-minded writers.
  • Lessons, lectures, and exercises on all aspects of Craft, Mindset, and Industry that you iterate through until you’re confident your story is reader-ready.
  • Three group coaching calls per month for 1:1 feedback and collaborative learning.
  • Weekly working sessions.
  • Monthly craft webinars for deeper dives on various elements of craft.

Online Community

Writing can be a lonely journey, but you don’t have to go it alone! Join a curated, moderated group of writers and receive support and encouragement, as well as resources, tips, and feedback. In addition to weekly recurring prompts, there are also genre and age category subgroups, and even a book recommendation thread. Get to know your fellow writers in this informal and supportive space.

Course Materials

Each month, Julie will teach a webinar on a craft, mindset, or market topic. In addition to those monthly talks, you’ll have access to pre-recorded lectures, workbooks, exercises, and other materials. This community is for you, so I will work to meet you wherever you are on your journey!

Group Coaching Calls

Hot seats are a great way to deep-dive into problems & solve them together as a community!

Three times a month, workshop members have the opportunity to sign up for 1:1 time with Julie. They bring their most pressing problems and we brainstorm solutions. Anyone can apply and we rotate through so that everyone gets time at least once a month.

Coaching calls happen on Zoom and are recorded for those who are not able to make it live. This is your opportunity to talk through questions you have about your story or applying the course materials.

Calls will take place:

  • First Monday of the month from 4 pm – 5:30 pm Pacific
  • Third Wednesday of the month from 1 pm – 2:30 pm Pacific
  • Fourth Tuesday of the month from 9 am – 10:30 am Pacific

Weekly Writing Sessions

Come write with other members of The Wyrd Words Workshop community on Zoom on:

  • Mondays, 4-6 pm Pacific
  • Tuesdays, 9-11 am Pacific
  • Wednesdays, 1-3 pm Pacific

Note that these times overlap with some of our coaching calls and workshops. That’s to create consistency in the times you have blocked for the workshop. An events calendar is available both in the community and via Google or iCal so you always have the most up-to-date information.

About Julie

Book Coach Julie Artz

Julie Artz helps writers who intend to change the world with their stories slay their doubt demons so they can send their work into the world with confidence. She does this with a mix of tough love, craft smarts, and industry knowledge, plus a sprinkle of book-witchery for good measure.

During her time as a book coach, she’s helped dozens of writers along their journey, from finishing that first-ever first draft all the way through interpreting editor feedback and launching a book into the world. In the past decade, she has helped writers find agents, indie-publish, small-press publish, hybrid publish, and/or go on to publish with Big Five and mid-sized presses. She loves helping bring stories into the world and her enthusiasm and care shines through in her 1:1 work with clients, her teaching style, and, of course, her running of The Wyrd Words Workshop.

Has Anyone Ever Called You or Your Story “Too Weird?”

Yggdrasil, the world tree.

It used to make me feel so lonely, so wrong, so “other,” when people called me or my stories or my ideas weird. Now when they say that, I just thank them, because what they don’t know is that Weird is my super power, my inner source of strength. And it can be yours too.

Wyrd (pronounced “weird”) means fate or destiny in Germanic traditions and is the rune that represents Yggdrasil, the world tree, in Norse mythology. As someone who has been told I was “too weird” pretty much all my life, this alternate, expansive understanding of what “weirdness” could mean thrills me.

If you set out each day to change the world with your stories, but worry you or your stories are too weird, I want to know you. I want to read them. I’m wyrd too. Let’s embrace it and work together. I can help you slay those doubt demons so that you can send your work out into the world with confidence.

The Wyrd Words Workshop provides memoirists and novelists with expert guidance, education, and community-based support. Let me help you can send your work out into the world with confidence.

To do that, we will work together to:

  • Establish a writing practice that gives you time, energy, and ease as you plan, draft, revise, and pitch your story.
  • Evaluate where your story is and what needs to happen to get it reader-ready.
  • Establish the big-picture “Why” of your writing life and your work in progress.
  • Determine gaps in your craft knowledge…and fill them!
  • Design story scaffolding appropriate for the genre, age category, and “why” of your story.
  • Learn to revise deeply so that you can get to “done.”
  • Understand the marketplace into which your book will launch.
  • Pitch with strategy and confidence.

Come Get Your Wyrd On…

The workshop combines a supportive, moderated community, live coaching sessions, monthly craft webinars and write-ins, and comprehensive course materials. I’ve got you covered no matter whether you are establishing your writing practice or planning, drafting, revising, and pitching/publishing your story.

An Early Success Story

We’ve already made so much magic in the first few months of The Wyrd Words Workshop! In November, I taught a Craft Magic workshop about the seven key scenes that should be part of your story. It’s a solid introduction to a topic that can be tricky for writers–story structure.

I spent our next coaching call debriefing on the topic with Workshop participants. We worked through questions and applied the concepts to each of their stories. We also identified a lot of confusion about how to write at the scene level. Everyone had reviewed my Understanding Scene lecture, but they were having trouble putting them into practice in their stories.

It’s such a common problem…You’ve read all the books, attended all the classes, but you need help putting it into practice. That’s where I come in!

So we all did a bonus assignment: diagram the six parts of a scene in both a real-live scene from a comp titles and in a scene from the work-in-progress. I even brought a scene from my brand-new story.

And guess what? We made magic! We took the concepts I introduced in the course materials and applied them hands-on together as a group. Every single participant commented that it was hugely helpful. They understood this tricky topic much better after our series of calls on scene. It was the kind of supportive learning environment I’d dreamed of creating when I first got the idea for workshop. And there’s still time for you to be a part of it.

Breaking down craft concepts and getting 1:1 help is exactly what you can expect from this magical workshop.

Take the Next Step: Tell me more about your story!

In order to keep the workshop a safe and supportive environment, I vet each writer who joins through an intake process that is open just a few times each year. Once you tell me about your story, you will be invited to a 1:1 Zoom with me so that we can decide if we’re a good fit or if another one of my packages would better meet your needs. Enter your name and email below and you’ll receive a link to my intake form, which asks you a few key questions about your story:
